A half strength Lismore side turned out to Bangalow to take on the inform Byron Magpies and were extremely disappointing lacking hunger and effort. Although the side lacked experience this was no excuse to the lack of determination and endeavour displayed.
The Swans worked hard in the first half however found it difficult to score goals while Byron made the most of their opportunities to trail by 35 points at half time. Injuries to a few more experienced players did not help the Swans cause however the Swans second half performance was frustrating to say the least. Lismore’s skills were atrocious and second and third efforts were barely evident as the Swans allowed Byron to take full control of the match. The Magpies were by far the better team on the day, their backline restricting the Swans while their midfield provided their forwards with plenty of opportunities.
Overall an extremely disappointing and embarrassing performance, one which the club will be keen to forget and move on from. This was a great low for the side after an impressive few weeks againstCarrara, Ballina and Bond Uni. The Swans will be looking forward to regrouping and moving on this week and will put great focus on the Grand Final rematch against the Tweed Coast Tigers at home this weekend.
Best on the day were Rhys Lavery and Tom Merrett.
Goals went to Wesley Seewald with 2 while singles were kicked by Will Kent and Jason Bevan.
Lismore 4.4-28 lost to Byron 17.10-112
