The Lismore Swans Australian Rules Football Club Inc expresses it's heartfelt sympathy to the victim of the sexual assault that took place in the vicinity of our home ground at Mortimer Oval in Lismore.
Upon notification of the incident on the morning of Friday 25 April, club President Wes Seewald immediately attended Lismore Police Station to inquire as to whether the club could assist police in any way. While thankful for the offer, police advised that they had closed the crime scene near the oval and that our assistance was not required.
The Lismore Swans wish to comment on the photo that appeared on the front page of the Northern Star Newspaper today, 26 April, which was captioned 'ABOVE: The reported location of an assault in Lismore near Dawson St and the Lismore Swans amenities block'. The building photographed is a facilitiy owned by Lismore City Council, the use of which is shared by local sporting groups who hire the facility, including the Lismore Swans. While we use the facility currently and it bears our club sign, the Lismore Swans Australian Rules Football Club is in no way responsible for security, lighting, surveillance or maintenance at and/or of this building, or the sporting grounds and grasslands that surround it.
The Lismore Swans wish police the best with their investigations and are hopeful that a speedy arrest is procured.
Wes Seewald
President
