The Ballina Bombers are hosting the Lismore Swans on August 16 at Fripp Oval in Ballina for the last round of the home and away season. While the main game promises to be an enthralling contest between two heavyweights of the QAFA South (B) competition, there is also a buzz building around the 'Legends Game' curtain raiser.
To celebrate 30 years of community football in the Northern Rivers, the Swans and the Bombers are hosting a pre-game match between past players and supporters from years past in an informal match starting at 12:30pm. All past players of the Lismore Swans, Goonellebah Swans and Lismore Kangaroos are invited to come along for leisurely kick before settling back to watch the main game after. Fitness or even mobility are not really required as the game will be played in a spirit befitting the friendships built between our two clubs during three decades of competition.
The Senior Match will feature a pink Sherrin and pink socks kindly sponsored by the Telstra shop in Ballina and money raised from raffles and a BBQ on the day will be donated to assist in breast cancer research.
Following the conclusion of the Senior game, all players and supporters are invited to stay for a function at the Ballina club rooms. Food and drink will be provided and the Bombers have even booked a live band.
A 25 seat bus has been booked for the day for the use of 'legends' and supporters, which will be leaving the Richmond Hotel at 11am and returning at about 10pm. Tickets on the bus are set at $15 each and follow a 'first in best dressed' rule.
To book your spot on the bus, or sign up to play in the 'Legends game', or if you have any enquiries, please email club President Wes Seewald at: lismoreswans@gmail.com
