Queensland State Rover, Club Captain and three times Jim Stubbs Best
& Fairest Winner, Dayne (‘Tinka’) Zorko has made clear a statement in
re-signing with the Broadbeach Cats for the 2011 season.
In recent years, Zorko has attracted interest and knocked back lucrative
offers from Clubs in South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia as well as
rich QAFL Clubs, however his decision to stay on at Broadbeach in 2011 is an
enormous show of faith in the Gold Coast Club.
“I am really impressed with the changes that are
occurring at Broadbeach,’ Zorko said.” I know we have done it tough in recent
years, but we’ve had a very young side and these guys are now getting to a
stage where they have played 30 or 40 games. Whilst we were disappointed with
our finishing position, the fact is that we have been a ‘team in progress’ and
the best of our group is just ahead. We really do have a stand out group of
young players coming through”, he said.
“The new Football Committee is clearly committed and it
has some great ideas and I really think this is a great opportunity for Broady
to become a dominant force in the State League Competition,” he said. “This
commitment is clearly evident in the recruiting of gun full forward Jason Eagle
for 2011 who will be an incredible asset to our Club”, Zorko said.
Considered by most as being exceptionally unlucky not
to have been snared by an AFL Club at the 2007 National Draft after starring
for Queensland as Captain in the Under 18 national championships of the same
year, Zorko has backed his judgement in deciding to remain a Cat in 2011.
In June this year against Western Magpies, Zorko
kicked an amazing 12 goals in a performance rated as the best ever seen at
Broadbeach. Following this effort the strong word was that Zorko would again
raise the interest of AFL Clubs – in particular Gold Coast Suns who played
directly after the match.
Zorko was again Broadbeach’s best performed
player in the 2010 Grogan Medal finishing just 4 votes behind Danny Wise –
after missing 2 vital matches.
