Large group again on the track – for a moment we even thought Oprah was stripped for the splits, but then Rhino turned around…..
We have some troubled with injuries at the moment: Searly and Ryan Bower have groin problems hopefully on the improve, Macca had some leg tightness, Ben Williams has the Kat heel, Jesse Derrick has had a staph infection in his knee (hospitalised overnight), and gun recruit Jason Eagles, is running out some stiffness.
But we have some fit blokes on the track. Well motivated, well led, well managed (Fults on slightly less than full load), well performed and well admired by those of us used to pre-season routines circa 1960. Who can remember - or forget - rocking up late Feb/early March Tuesday and Thursday nights? Run a couple of laps, have a technicolour yawn, join circle work and finish off with a firkin on Thursdays. Not now, these blokes are giving it all as of now, and we will all benefit from their work.
Foxey took them through 3 x 1 click runs with 3 minute splits. Elite, average and plodder specific time targets were set for individuals and team. Players were provided time signals throughout the runs so tempos could be adjusted or a ‘pelaton’ strengthened in the pursuit of team group goals. Results were recorded on Foxy’s home made all-purpose flip charts.
Fastest first split was Sam Robertson on 3.0 minutes with Matt Fife and Liam Frawley close seconds on 3.03 and Ash Palmer and R-Pants in a photo for third at 3.07 Fastest third split was Simmo (time lost in time). Looking gooooooood boys, except for Dan Skrinis who followed Foxy’s instructions to the letter and entered the vomit zone. Coach Angus thought Skrinna had Spag Marinara for lunch, whatever, Joey Barile clearly had no lunch as he tackled the left overs.
Foxy’s 4 km handicap steeplechase is set for Sat morning 6.00 am. In a close vote the Spit just got up over Qatar as the preferred track. Park vehicles in car park on the left of the large roundabout just before Sea World near the snake pit.
Some images of the training can be found at Pizzey9. There is one ring-in photo which depicts Mark Frawley, club treasurer and Tim Forrest thinking, thinking, thinking over the proposed new website design.
Final note: Fifey’s sister is celebrating her 21st Saturday night (congratulations), and all players are warned off by Fifey.
