MAROOCHYDORE coach Brett Maloney was left lamenting some inaccurate kicking in front of goal after his side was swamped by Surfers Paradise at the Maroochydore Multi-Sport Complex yesterday.
The seventh-placed Roos were well in the hunt against the third-placed Demons, trailing 6.5 (41) to 4.7 (31) at the main break.
Unaided by a dying wind, however, the host was overrun by a commanding Surfers Paradise to lose 14.14 (98) to 6.14 (50).
"The thing that let us down was our scoreboard pressure - we had 20 scoring shots but had just six goals - and our disposal," Maloney said. "They (the Devils) hit targets and we didn't on a regular basis."
The Roos put themselves into good position to score but simply failed to make the most of their opportunities.
"For the period we competed, we just couldn't convert and capitalise on opportunities. We were just missing," Maloney said.
Some of that was due to constant pressure from the opposition.
"They (Roos players) were probably rushed (by Demons)," Maloney said.
"It's disappointing because even at three-quarter time we thought we were well in the game.
"To blow out to a 48-point loss, that's a flogging in reality. It's probably not a true reflection of how we played, but that's what happens when you don't capitalise."
Significantly, the Roos were well beaten in effective disposals.
Maloney said it would take his relatively young side to become adept in that department.
"Your skill set, your ability with the footy in hand, it's something that won't change in a week - that's something you've got to keep working on over your whole career," he said.
It was the Roos' fifth loss in eight matches.
"It puts us a step back to the rest of the competition, but we've got to keep fronting up," Maloney said.
"I don't use it as an excuse, but we're are a significantly young side and this is good experience for them."
The Roos' Jared Clark injured his hamstring yesterday.
Winger Kane Tyson was among the standouts.
FORMER powerhouse Noosa claimed just its second win of the season yesterday when it beat last-placed Burleigh 13.11 (89) to 13.7 (85) at Burleigh.
