The Western Magpies are at the crossroads of their season with a critical match against Wilston Grange at Chelmer on Saturday. The Magpies are currently one match outside the five in sixth place and will be looking to reverse their shock first round defeat by the Gorillas who sit in eight place on the ladder one win behind the Magpies.
The Magpies have made three changes to the side with Peter Kilroy, and Redlands listed players Tom Michael and Jack Goodall being included--Michael after a stint with the Suns in NEAFL and Goodall included after a good first up Reserves match last week.
Out are half back Billy Moorehead with a thigh strain and defender Doug Lawrence and Matt Hockley, both unavailable. Reserves captain Sean McEvoy was named emergency after good form and is on the verge of a well deserved senior call-up.
The Pies need to regroup as Grange will be a dangerous proposition , having been competitive in most matches they have lost this season. Chris Hunt across half back has been the standout player for the magpies in their past few matches and with hayden thick form the pillars of the defence—Kilroy coming back adds some run out of defence and Sean Mewing‘s return to form also gives drive from defence.
Skipper Lachlan Woods has worked hard all season and was a good player last week and will need to again have to win the midfield contests with Richard Wenham and in-form ruckman Dom Beer to give key forwards Matt Garland and Jordan Bain enough opportunities to kick a winning score.
It is a must win match for the Magpies and they will need to put together a four quarter effort to overcome a dangerous Grange team.
