The Roos snuck home by a solitary point over a vastly-improved Moreton Bay (formerly Caboolture) on Saturday night after a Daniel Dzufer behind with 20 seconds remaining broke the deadlock.
In a 7pm night match and in front of large crowd assembled for the launch of the club's new lighting, the Roos were not expecting an easy game against a rebuilding Moreton Bay that have come on in leaps and bounds since last season.
And a fight is exactly what they got.
Maroochydore got out to an early lead and went into the first break with a 15 point lead. However, MB put it to the much more experienced Roos outfit from then on in.
The Lions reduced the gap to 5 points at the main break before piling on 5 goals in the 3rd quarter which saw them take a 14 point lead at one point before a late goal to newly-appointed co-captain Jarryd Hill saw Maroochydore reduce the defecit to 4 points at the final break.
The final stanza showed all the trademarks of a nailbiter with the ball swinging from both ends of the ground and tough defence the order of the day. Paddy Stowe kicked the first goal of the quarter to wrestle the lead back at the 14 minute mark before Jackson Ryan extended the lead to 8 points 18 minutes in.
The Lions kicked goals in the 20th and 25th minutes and again hit the front before Dzufer nailed one to level the scores at 82 a peice in the 28th minute.
In a 33-minute final quarter, the ball then swung from both ends of the ground with neither side able to break the deadlock until Dzuf again bobbed up with 20 seconds to go and kicked the point that ultimately won the game.

In ther earlier game, the Roos Reserves broke a two game losing streak with a convincing win against the Lions. However, entry into the forward line and innnacuracy in front of goals cost the side a bigger victory.
The Colts had a Bye this weekend while the 3rds ran out 126-31 winners over reigning premiers Bribie Island.

The Roos have the Bye next weekend before taking on ladder leaders and flag favourites Mayne in Brisbane the following weekend.
