The Rococo Bar and Bistro Noosa Tigers have pulled off a gritty come from behind victory over 3 peat premiers Mayne in Brisbane last Saturday. With scores level as the final siren sounded, the ball was in the hands of gun recruit and forward Kent Delbridge. Whilst Delbridge was beaten on the day by his high flying attacking opponent, Delbridge showed his class and experience he continually has brought to the tigers, banging the ball straight through and ensuring a great win for Noosa. In fact the Noosa boys trailed by 13 points halfway through the final stanza and it just shows how important it is to stay in the game to the end; even if things aren't going your way. I’m sure senior coach Sammy Faure would be pleased to have that never say die attitude starting to infiltrate into his group. A fantastic victory against the best opposition in the competition which should stand this very exuberant but low key tiger outfit in good stead for the rest of the year.
Of course there were plenty of stars for the tigers but no better than the skilful and elusive Jai Fitzpatrick who again is a standout in this competition. The manner in which he was able to win his own ball, weave through traffic and deliver was just first class and a real eye opener. Our footy manager Mitch Woods also again one of the dominant players in the ground. He plays like an old fashioned half back flanker, see ball, get ball and deliver ball to teammate; then get back and protect. Certainly Mitch is a massive reason whilst the tigers sit where they do at this stage of the year. Champion rover Caleb Isles stood up in the absence of Nick Hill amassing heaps of the footy and showing the type of expected grit and courage we have known from the little champ for over a decade. In defence Joel Lambourn was outstanding once again as he builds into yet another fine season for Noosa. Lambourn kept Mayne legend and games record holder Andrew Houseago to only one major in front of a big home crowd. Up forward there were several multiple goal kickers with Jeffries, Faure, Curry and of course the man of the moment Delbridge all getting at least 2. However I thought he work rate and cleverness of Bence certainly had its influence over the result. Bence has been very busy up forward the past month with the ex-Frankston boy really starting to find his mojo at Noosa.
A season defining win (we'll have to wait and see) but there is a long way to go in season 2017 and as the old saying goes well take it one week at a time at the Tigers. Big day at our Weyba Rd headquarters this Saturday as we host ex QAFL side Uni of QLD on our official ‘Kids Day’. There will be jumping castles, face painting and interactive activities. See you all there, Pittsy
