The Tweed Coast Tigers Football Club has secured their first win and points in the Summerland League vs an undermanned Nimbin in Rd 4.
The final score was 28.25 (193) to 2.4(16) in a big win for the new club.
The strongest Tigers Squad yet to take the field travelled to scenic Nimbin in anticpation of a potential first victory and didn't disapoint the crowd of Tiger supporters who made the trip.
Nimbin toiled hard all day but were obviuously undergunned and suffered from a lack of fitness, whilst the Tigers with a taste of blood ran rampant. The only negative for the Tigers was some poor kicking infront of the sticks with 25 behinds (and a couple out on the full) otherwsie the score could of been much worse for the Nimbin Demons. There's sure to be some goal kicking drills run in the next 2 weeks by Tigers Coach Paul Kelly.
The Tigers seemed to finally click as a team with the strong backline denying the Demons any scoring oppurtunities until late in the 3rd qtr (when half of the backline was being rested on the bench) and the Dee's snuck in 2 goals.
The Centre was dominated by the Tigers with ruckman Trent serving up the ball on a plate to the small men with Josh, Jimbo, Ben and newcomer Johnno carving up the middle.
The Tigers lead at every change and it was the service from the midldle that allowed full forward Jules to dominate up front with strong overhead marking and kick 10 goals for the game, a Best on Ground performance. He was aptly supported by his forward pockets and half forwards who all got amongst the goals. Inlcuding Chainsaw, first gamer Jayden (who kicked a goal with his first touch in Seniors), Johnno, Adam, Gav, Don, Peaches and Josh.
It was a great first win for the Tigers who sung the team song for the first time on the field and then all the way home on the team bus, and then again and again in the Potty Tavern.......('Cmon Arty let's sing it again........').
The bus ride home will go down in Tiger folklore, 1,2,3,4,5,6,BOTTLES. Say no more!
A special mention to Chris and Scotty who volunteered to play for the Demons, takes a lot of heart to switch sides on a day your team could and did have their first victory. Chris was without doubt Nimbins best on ground. Well done lads.
Also a big thanks to the Tigers Coaching and Support Staff and the many supporters who made the long trip down to Nimbin to see the Tigers first VICTORY!!!!
Next game in 2 weeks Saturday 31st May at Potty Oval vs Lismore.
One more time...
